Between work, childcare, and struggling with a horrendous cough and bad back – basically, I’m disgustingly old – I haven’t had the chance to properly write anything up. So, I’ve cheated and came up with a playlist instead.
My idea for the Metal Mondays concept is that it’s from the perspective of someone who isn’t really into metal. But, I am into a lot of the music that paved the way for it. So this playlist tries to capture late-60s/early 70s rock as the blues and garage bands of the era started to get heavier, more psychedelic, and generally a bit weirder.
I realise that you could go way back to the early blues and all sorts if you really wanted to trace back the roots of metal. But I wanted something relatively short. There’s some classic rock heavyweights in there, plus some slightly more obscure stuff.
The playlist is linked below. Let me know if you have your own recommendations of pre-metal heavy/psych rock.
