Track of the Day: Fnasty323 – 100 Guns 100 Clips

Track of the Day provides bitesize recommendations of new discoveries and old favourites.

Following last year’s brief but memorable appearance on Kendrick’s TV Off (“crazy, scary, spooky, hilarious”), Lefty Gunplay is spreading some of that newfound spotlight with a string of recent features. On 100 Guns 100 Clips, he teams up with East LA street rapper, Fnasty323, for a hard-edged West-Coast banger.

If you didn’t know better, you’d think you were listening to a G-Funk classic, with a speaker-shaking bounce of a beat from Albanian producer, Cricket. It’s a Nate Dogg chorus away from fully taking you back to the 90’s. Fnasty duly fills that role though, with a hook exuding nonchalant bravado. Espousing their gangster credentials, Fnasty’s energetic verse is contrasted by Lefty’s languid drawl, which is sneakily acrobatic as he turns in increasingly technically proficient flows to complement his carefree charisma.
